Use a stabilized cylinder reading with appropriate, calibrated instruments. Review Safety & Limitations before making any work decision.

01Getting started

Does WALRUS need a connection?

No for the measurement workflow. Comparisons, reference data, and local history work offline. The only connection is optional feedback you deliberately submit from Settings; it is not required to use the app.

What conditions produce a meaningful screening reading?

The cylinder should be stabilized near ambient conditions and contain liquid and vapor. Vapor-only contents, recently recovered or heated cylinders, mixed contents, instrument error, or an unstable temperature can make a P–T comparison less meaningful or unsuitable.

Why does WALRUS ask for gauge versus absolute pressure?

Saturation curves use absolute pressure. Gauge pressure is relative to local atmosphere, so WALRUS must convert it. Selecting the wrong basis shifts every comparison. Elevation is an estimate of atmospheric baseline; actual weather conditions can differ.

02Results

Why are there several possible matches?

Overlapping P–T behavior is real, particularly among blends and similar fluids. A single temperature and pressure reading often cannot distinguish candidates. A “no close match” result is also a valid outcome.

What do Close, Possible, and Weak mean?

They are fixed agreement bands between your entered reading and a modeled saturation curve, within the app’s tolerance. They are not probabilities and do not establish what a cylinder contains.

Can WALRUS assess contamination or decide whether a refrigerant is usable?

No. Moisture, oil, air, non-condensables, contamination, blends, and composition are not measurable from one P–T reading. WALRUS cannot determine purity, safety, or reuse suitability. Use qualified testing and applicable procedures when those questions matter.

03Data and history

What data does the app use?

WALRUS includes a versioned, curated set of supported refrigerant P–T curves. It models published saturation behavior and uses bubble/dew boundaries for supported blends. Model agreement is not field validation or proof of cylinder contents.

Where is my history stored?

The most recent comparisons are stored locally on your device. WALRUS has no account or cloud history. You can delete entries or clear history in the app.
